This is a great new member of the MeteoBridge family which includes all of the standard Meteobridge software features in a logger-sized module AND includes WiFi communication with your domestic or office WiFi network. The new Nano SD has a 2GB industrial SD card prefitted.
The Meteobridge NANO is a tiny plug-in device that dramatically extends the features of your Davis Instruments® Vantage Pro2™ or Vue™ weather station. The NANO is simply plugged in the expansion connector underneath the battery cover on the back of the console and in exactly the same way as a standard logger. When you close the back cover again this upgrade is completely invisible.
The NANO adds a full Meteobridge feature-set to your weather station setup which includes many extra services for which you usually need a full PC solution. The NANO just takes about 1 watt of energy and therefore is dramatically more power efficient than using a PC and more convenient to use than even a Raspberry Pi (although without the flexibility of software choice available using a Pi)..
What is NANO SD?
From a hardware perspective the NANO SD is simply a standard NANO with a microSD card inserted. Note that this is a special industrial-grade SD card specially selected to have a much longer service life than the ordinary consumer-grade SD cards which are much cheaper to buy - this is the reason for the significant price difference between standard Nano and Nano SD.
The microSD card slot is hidden between the two PCBs and fully operational on all NANO's out there. That means it is possible to upgrade a standard NANO to a NANO SD. However, the recommended industrial SD cards are expensive and not easy to source, plus fitting the SD card to a standard Nano is quite a fiddly process. If you're tempted by the extra features offered by the Nano SD it is considerably simpler to buy the Nano SD unit (ie with the special SD card already fitted).
What makes the NANO SD a better NANO?
The key benefit of Nano SD over standard Nano is that the SD card provides long-term storage for weather data, as well as more working memory. This makes Nano SD much more of a self-contained weather data device, as well as offering exclusive extra features such as the dashboard based on the HomweWeatherStation template from weather34.com.
